Gender and Ethnic Diversity Today

A Current Look at Diversity in the Top 200

When it comes to ethnic diversity, the legal industry has work to do. People of color represent only 16% of all attorneys in the top 200. Women of color represent only 8% of the population overall and only four percent of partners. The use of data and tools like The Leopard List and Firmscape can help improve retention and create strategies to close the diversity gaps.

The business reasons for increasing diversity are many. There is substantial research to show that diversity brings many advantages to an organization: increased profitability and creativity, stronger governance, and better problem-solving abilities. Employees with diverse backgrounds bring to bear their own perspectives, ideas, and experiences, helping to create organizations that are resilient and effective and which outperform organizations that do not invest in diversity. At Leopard Solutions, we are working to remove a barrier to finding diverse attorneys that meet all the other requirements.
