Recruiter Corner: How to Build a Healthy Talent Pool
Legal recruiters who can successfully develop and leverage an attorney talent pool will have the power to fill open positions quickly with skilled professionals. Let’s take a look at a few ways you can ensure that your talent pool is healthy.
- Ask the right questions. As you’re deciding who you will add to your talent pool, you must ask a few important questions to guide your choices. What type of talent do you usually need? What skills and experience is most important to the type of law firms you work with? What are the most critical recruiting needs you have right now? Knowing what qualities you want in a candidate will help you make the right choices.
- Segment your list. If you want to effectively access your list in the future, you must have strong segmentation. Separate candidates based on their skills, experience, location, and educational level. This will make it easy to find the candidates for the open positions you must fill. Be sure to automate this process so that all your talent pool contacts are stored in a database where you can pull reports based on important criteria.
- Stay in touch. There is no value in having a list of contacts where you’ve failed to stay in touch for months or even years. Create a system of automatically touching base with talent pool contacts at least a few times a year. You can even schedule emails to be sent to your entire list for holidays, special events, or news. Staying in touch is a good way to keep your recruiting brand on the front burner.
Building a healthy talent pool will give you an advantage in finding quality candidates quickly.
