Leopard Legal Brief: Update News for the Week of March 12th, 2015
This week saw two mergers: litigation boutique Grippo & Elden into Shook Hardy & Bacon, and the five-attorney firm of Reeg Lawyers merged into Goldberg Segalla, creating a new St. Louis office for Goldberg Segalla.
Goldberg Segalla, in addition to the attorneys acquired through the merger, also brought on nine new laterals and established their first southern regional office.
The nine laterals consisted of one partner and one counsel joining their existing Philadelphia office, and five partners and two associates to the new Greensboro, North Carolina location, focusing on litigation and insurance.
We noted 200 lateral moves from associate, partner and counsel, down from 387 the previous week.
518 attorneys left their firms, slightly up from 475 departures from the previous week.
Leopard Solutions also tracked 51 attorneys promoted to partner, and 43 promoted to counsel.
Lateral moves of note in the past week include Jackson Lewis adding six attorneys, Lewis Brisbois picking up five associates, and Gozdecki, Del Giudice, Americus, Farkas & Brocato adding four attorneys to their Chicago office — two partners and two associates.
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, continuing their growth post-acquisition, added 13 laterals, three partners and 10 associates. Of this total, their Dallas office received three lateral partners and one associate, and the New York office added four associates to their roster.
Other laterals include: Steptoe & Johnson added three litigation partners in Chicago; Strassburger Mckenna added three associates in Pittsburgh; Troutman Sanders added three corporate associates to their Charlotte office; and Wicker Smith added six associates across their Florida offices.
Overall lateral moves are higher this year.
Leopard Firmscape reports 7827 lateral moves of associates, partner and counsel, into the Top 200 firms from March 12, 2014 to March 12, 2015. During the same period last year, March 12 2013 to March 12 2014, we only saw 6856 moves within the Top 200 firms.
In addition to Goldberg Segalla opening a North Carolina office, new offices were added for Ballard Spahr in New York, Cadwalader in Houston, Gordon Rees Scully (Harrisburg PA) and Harness Dickey (Frisco, TX).
