Congratulations,
you’ve made it to the second interview! According to some experts, you now have
a 50 percent chance of landing the job. But what can you do to improve the
odds? Let’s take a look at a few tips for winning over employers in a second
interview:
- Find out if the second
interview will include multiple interviewers and how long it will last.
Some second interviews include a serious of meetings with individuals or
even a panel. Be prepared.
- Review your notes from your
first interview. Were there questions you found difficult to answer? Were
there things that you failed to address in the first interview? Or, did
you find that you performed well beyond your expectations? Whatever the
case, make sure that you use the information from your first interview to
your benefit.
- Talk to your contact or
recruiter to find out what issues will be addressed in the second
interview. This may be a good time
to talk to others who have interviewed with the company so that you can
get an idea of what to expect.
- Remember that along with
other issues, most second interviews will primarily look at how well you
fit into the culture of the company. Will you work well with the existing
team members? Before attending the
second interview find out more about the company culture and ask yourself
if you will really fit into the organization.
- If the second interview will
be lengthy, you may be invited to have lunch with the interviewers. Make sure you review etiquette so that
you make a good impression.
- Don’t be surprised if salary
and benefits are discussed during the second interview. Be prepared to
negotiate and don’t make any final decisions on the spot. Tell them you
will get back to them with an answer.
