How To Stop Straddling The Fence Of Indecision

by Beverly Aarons 5. October 2011 07:41

Do you have a big decision to make about your recruiting business? Maybe you can’t decide whether or not you should take on a new client or candidate. Or, you’re trying to decide which vendor would best suit your needs.  Sometimes the hardest decision is actually taking the plunge and making a final decision. Below are a few tips on how recruiters can make faster and more effective decisions:

  1. Don’t over research.  One of the biggest obstacles to making a decision is over researching the issue.  If you need to decide on a group of job candidates, only look at the most important information and then make a decision based on that.  In today’s internet age there is literally an inexhaustible well of information in which we can become lost if we attempt to utilize it all. Only gather the information you absolutely need and then decide.
  2. Forget perfection.  Yes, it’s important to make the right decision; but if you never actually decide you can forget about progress.  Recruiters shouldn’t wait until everything is perfect before making a decision.  Make the decision when circumstances are good enough.
  3. Don’t overanalyze.   A closely related cousin of over researching, taking too much time to analyze the data can create indecision. At some point you need to go with your gut and make a choice.
  4. Set a deadline.  Open ended due dates are like wormholes of indecision. With no deadline, a recruiter can take forever to decide.  Create a deadline to reach a decision and then stick with it.
