Recruiter Corner: Are You Mentally Prepared To Become A Big Biller?

by Beverly Aarons 22. September 2011 06:48

Every recruiter who is striving to reach their financial dream of being a big biller has probably studied the tips and tricks of other big billing recruiters.  But the key to being a big biller lies not only in skills and techniques but in mental outlook.  This is not to say that “positive” thinking is enough get you over the financial hump; but that a recruiter’s paradigm and understanding of how the world of success really works will often determine whether or not they reach their desired destination. Let’s take a look at a few tips on how recruiters can mentally prepare themselves to become a big biller:

  1. Clear your head of clutter.  Today’s world is filled with information, lots of it useless and negative.  A recruiter who wants to bill big needs the mental space to focus on what’s important in his/her business. To secure this mental space it’s important to minimize your focus on things that don’t benefit your business, especially during working hours. Consider beginning your day not by watching or reading the news, but by focusing on the most important tasks in your business.
  2. Focus on one thing at a time. While multitasking has been herald as the “in thing.” Studies have proven that multitasking can decrease productivity.  Recruiters should focus on the most important tasks first without interruption. For example, if you are doing sales calls for an hour, don’t check your email or accept any incoming calls during that time.
  3. Do not look in your crystal ball.  Many recruiters are stopped or at least delayed from making sales calls or doing other tasks because they fear negative consequences.  The truth is that you cannot predict what will happen once you ask for the job order or make the offer to a job candidate.  You can only focus on your part of the equation.  By resisting the urge to predict and mentally engage in battles which haven’t happened (and may not ever happen) focus only on that which you can control.
