For
independent recruiters, working from home may be something they’ve done for
years; but if you’re an in-house recruiter or new to working independently,
working from home may be somewhat of a challenge. So how does a legal recruiter
working from home do so effectively and without losing productivity? Below are
a few tips:
- The first step to working from home effectively
is to do a self-assessment. Are you able to work independently and stay
focused? Or, do you need supervision and someone to hold you accountable?
Be honest here, because there are support groups for work-at-home
individuals that offer peer support and accountability for those who need
it.
- Make sure you have the right technology at your
disposal. Invest in a computer and
internet service that is dependable. A matter of fact, you may want to
have a backup internet system for those times that service is disrupted.
Also, make sure you have the right type of software that can make your job
easier.
- Setup an effective system for communicating
with clients and job candidates. While you don’t need to be in constant
contact, clients and job candidates should not feel that your work-at-home
situation is barrier to getting in touch with you when needed.
- If you’re working as in-house recruiter, make
sure that you provide your employer with some type of metrics on
productivity. Many employers are
not accustomed to employees working from home, so they tend to worry that
productivity may decline. Come up with a system to put their fears about
productivity to rest.
