The old saying that it takes more energy to get a new client than it takes to keep an old one is true. Most legal recruiters understand it’s a lot easier to get a job order from an existing client who knows their work than to get a job order from someone who doesn’t know them at all. So how does a legal recruiter go about getting repeat business from existing clients, and even better, keeping the client for a lifetime (or at least a very long time)? Below are a few tips:
- Nurture your customers. Make sure that you’re doing things in their business that will help them grow and prosper. The more value you bring to a customer’s business, the more likely they are to remain with you.
- Make sure that you build relationships with multiple people in your client’s company. That way, there isn’t just one person who is familiar with the quality of your work. If your primary contact eventually leaves, you will still have another advocate who recognizes your value to the business.
- Make sure that you consistently let your clients know that you care about their business. Do this by taking care to provide excellent service and check in with them to find out how their needs may have changed.
- Understand that while your aim is to provide excellent service, mistakes happen. When mistakes do occur, always own up to and correct any errors you’ve made immediately.
