As more legal recruiters and employers use applicant tracking systems (ATS), the technology has allowed them to document and track the behavior of candidates who apply through the system. Behavior which is deemed undesirable can result in the job candidate becoming blacklisted from the system. In otherwords, the ATS will ignore future resumes submitted by the job candidate effectively blacklisting the candidate. Below are a few job seeker mistakes which can result in blacklisting:
- Job candidates who submit resumes which do not match previous resumes already received by the company, may find themselves blacklisted. Mismatched dates, job titles and even job descriptions can result in blacklisting. Some ATS systems compare your resume to resumes sent as far back as seven years; if there are mismatches the system may flag the resume.
- ATS systems are designed to weed out resumes which do not match the requirements of the job. Job candidates who consistently send resumes that do not meet the employer needs may find themselves blacklisted by the automated system.
- Applying for too many jobs at the same company can also get you blacklisted by the applicant tracking system. Employers have found that job candidates who apply to too many jobs, especially if they are not related, are simply desperate for any job and won’t last at the company. That’s way applicant tracking systems flag often these candidates.
