Recruiter Tips: Creating Your Value Proposition

by Beverly Aarons 20. April 2011 09:13

Are you a legal recruiter having difficulty securing new clients?  If so, you may have failed to create a convincing and powerful value proposition.  The top legal recruiters understand that they are in the business of finding talent; but also in the business of sales.  And when it comes to sales you need to immediately connect with your potential customer in a way that most recruiters fail to do. Let’s take a look at a few facts:

  1. When legal recruiters approach a potential client they can immediately face resistance if their pitch omits how they can truly serve the needs of the client.  The mistake that many recruiters make is that they fail to give the potential client a good reason to contract them to find the talent they need.
  2. Even when a legal recruiter is able to help a client understand their need for a legal recruiter, they may fail to differentiate their services from the services of other recruiters.  What makes you different?  And not just different, but different in a way that is important to the potential client.
  3. Finally, the legal recruiter who is able to secure the most opportunities for their business is the one who can substantiate their claims.  For example, it is not enough to say that you are the best at matching talent with employers. Instead, you may want to be specific, “We have successfully matched over 100 employers with the right talent in the past two years.  Eight-five percent of our new hires remain on the job one year or longer.” That statement backed up with statistics and employer testimonials could be enough to substantiate your claims of being the best at matching employers and talent.
