The cliché “Good help is hard to find,” is true even during a recession.
That’s why recruiters and employers must make sure that their online job ads
are effectively reaching the quality candidates they want. But because so many
recruiters and employers are overwhelmed with the everyday needs of their
organizations oftentimes online job ads don’t get the full attention they
require. To make it simple and a
little easier for recruiters and employers to create effective job ads, we have
listed below four critical elements to a successful online job ad:
1. Headlines must
be informative. Simply placing “Litigation Attorney” in your headline is not
enough to attract the job candidates you want. Make sure that you include the
most important information in your job ad’s headline. Include the type of job, location, level of the position,
experience needed, salary, benefits or any other “attracters” that would catch
the eye of the right prospects. For example, “Litigation Attorney, 5 yrs exp,
Ohio” would be an informative headline for your online job ad.
2. Online job ads
must address the candidate’s problem and how taking this particular job will
solve it. For example, if your job
will offer an opportunity for quick advancement, then that will be a selling
point for those job candidates who are looking to move up the ladder at a firm.
3. The job ad must
include a brief job description that is informative but not overdone. You don’t
need to include every minute detail about the job; but you do need to include
the most important responsibilities that you expect the new hire to take on.
4. The job ad must
include an honest list of the experience you expect job candidates to
have. While it’s okay to include a
short “wish list” or “nice to haves” you must make it clear what is absolutely
required for a job candidate to be considered for the job.
