Master The Job Hunt: Overcoming The Fear Of Rejection

by Beverly Aarons 9. February 2011 10:33
Rejection is an everyday reality for job seekers, especially those who have searched for work for a year or more.  But sometimes job seekers develop an unhealthy or irrational fear of rejection which can stifle their job search efforts. Below are a few tips on how job seekers can overcome that fear:

1.     Don’t anticipate failure but accept that it is a possibility.  One of the most effective ways to overcome fear of failure is that the job seekers must accept the possibility of failure but also accept that success if also a possibility. This is about having realistic exceptions and accepting that rejection is just part of the process. This acceptance of rejection will go a long way in helping the job seeker overcome their fears.

2.     Don’t allow rejection, the fear of rejection or actual rejection itself to stop you in your job search efforts. Many job seekers stop their job searches after they have been rejected a number of times because the rejection is too painful. Each job seeker must have plan to deal with rejection quickly and then move on to the next job prospect.

3.     Don’t wrap your self-image up with your ability to land a job.  If you think that you’re worthless because you have been rejected for employment then you will not be willing to take a chance.  Many job seekers procrastinate in their job search because rejection bruises their ego.  Don’t let this happen to you. Make sure that you are getting your self-worth from things other than your job.
