Are you looking
for work out-of-state? If so, then you know that an out of state job search
brings its own set of obstacles.
Below are a few tips on how to overcome the out-of-state job search
challenges:
1.
The
first obstacle facing an out-of-state job seeker is the perception that they
are not offering anything that a local job seeker can’t offer. To overcome this negative perception,
job seekers should research the job market and find out if the locale is
lacking candidates with certain skills or experience. Once the job seeker identifies the skills and experience
lacking in that market they should emphasize how they can provide what local
candidates lack.
2.
The
second obstacle to an out-of-state job search is that the job seeker may lack
local connections. Job seekers can
overcome this obstacle by using social networking and their existing network to
connect to potential leads in the state they are targeting for their job
search.
3.
The
third obstacle facing out-of-state job seekers is that once they have an
opportunity to interview it will be expensive to travel back and forth for
multiple interviews. Out-of-state
job seekers should see if they can arrange telephone and/or video interviews
for their first interview and look into scheduling multiple interviews around
the same date.
