It’s tough being
part of the unemployed especially if you’re one of the 99ers who have or who
will soon see their unemployment benefits disappear; but it’s even more
difficult during the holidays.
Below are a few tips on how an unemployed worker can survive the holiday
season:
1.
While
you shouldn’t take a complete break from your job search, looking for a job on
Christmas day is counterproductive and stressful. Make sure that you take some time off for yourself and just
relax. Now is the time to count all of the things that you have for which
you’re grateful.
2.
Treat
yourself to some inexpensive gifts that could actually help you in your job
search. Is there a class you want
to take? A book you want to
read? Or have you considered
investing in some quality interview suits? Whatever job search aid you’ve been considering, now is the
time to splurge on those beneficial things.
3.
Don’t
succumb to the temptation to overspend on holiday gifts you can’t afford. If you’re unemployed your income is
limited, consider inexpensive gifts for close family and friends and holiday
cards for the rest.
4.
Take
the time out to volunteer your time to help those who are less fortunate than
you. Even if you are facing your
own financial challenges, giving a helping hand to those who are facing even
more difficulties can give you a sense of accomplishment.
