Mastering The Interview: Cross-Examining The Employer

by Beverly Aarons 24. November 2010 10:42
During the interview there always comes a point when the interviewer asks the job candidate if they have any questions.  Unfortunately, many job candidates either do not have questions or have failed to formulate questions that will give them further insight into the company or the position they are seeking.  Below are few important questions that job candidates might want to ask in their cross-examination of the employer:

1.     What type of cases will I be working on?  The answer to this question will give the job candidate more insight into the mechanics of the job which cannot fully be described in a job description.

2.     What type of support is provided for the person in this position?  Will you have staff, access to certain types of technology or other resources that will assist you in fulfilling the requirements of the job?  By delving into the real mechanics of the job and the resources that will be provided to you, you will have a better understanding of whether or not the expectations of the company are realistically aligned with the resources they are willing to provide.

3.     What type of results do you expect in the next 6 months from the new hire who takes this position?  The employer’s answer to this question will help you understand how you will be evaluated if you take the job. Also, it will help you determine if the employer’s expectations are realistic.
