After months of
searching and getting a few interviews under your belt, but no job, it can be
difficult to not take the rejections personally. Below are four tips for dealing with job search rejection:
1.
Don’t
take it personally. When an
employer chooses another job candidate, it is rarely personal. The employer is simply making a choice
that they believe is in the best business interests of their company.
2.
Reward
yourself for effort. When you’re searching for a job, the only things you have
control over are your actions. That’s why setting and reaching goals is
important. So for every goal you
reach, whether it’s sending out a certain amount of resumes each month or
speaking to a certain number of people at a networking meeting, reward
yourself.
3.
Talk
it out with a mentor or friend. If your job search is getting to you, find a
mentor or friend to whom you can vent your frustrations. Sometimes there’s nothing better than
telling someone else about the frustrations you’re feeling when you receive a
rejection.
4.
Volunteer
or take a consulting job while you continue your job search. There’s nothing
more curative than working in your field as a volunteer or consultant and
receiving positive feedback as you continue your job search
