Telephone
interviews are becoming more common especially in the early part of the
recruiting process. That’s why
it’s important that job candidates are prepared to put their best foot forward
even if their first opportunity to shine is over the phone. Below are a few
tips on how job candidates can increase their chances of having a successful
phone interview:
1.
Get
up early as if you’re going to a face-to-face job interview. Get dressed, put
on a suit and find a place in your home that is quiet and comfortable. But don’t get too comfortable, if you
have a home office, you may want to conduct the interview there. Doing the interview while you’re still
lying in bed is not an option.
2.
Fire
up your computer and gather your notes.
When a job candidate has a telephone interview, they have advantage of
being able to reference their notes, the company’s website or other sources as
they speak with the employer. Take
advantage of this fact and be ready to ask questions and even jot down notes
during your interview.
3.
Make
sure that you’re projecting the right image with your voice. Job candidates should smile during
their phone interview and make sure that they are sitting in a chair that
allows them to sit up straight. This
will help the job candidate project confidence over the phone
