After months of
fruitless interviews or rejection letters/emails any job seeker can become
disillusioned about their search.
But how does one reinvigorate their job search after months of failing
to snag a position?
1.
Reassess
your job search goals. Are your
job search goals in touch with the reality of today’s job market? Take the time and find out who is
hiring or not hiring and adjust your goals (salary, job targets etc.) to align
with the reality of the current job market.
2.
Reassess
your job search strategy. Are you
really doing all that you think you’re doing in your job search? Are you following up on job leads? Staying in touch with business
connections? Using your social
network to find a job? Make sure
that you have the right strategy and that you are in fact implementing that
strategy. You may even want to
consider tracking what you’re doing on a day to day basis.
3.
Set
goals and take a break from your job search as you reach your goals. Grinding away at your job search
non-stop is a recipe for burnout.
The most effective job seekers stay on task and then take a break so
that they can be refreshed once they return to their search.
4.
Don’t
let your job skills atrophy. Consider
taking a class or volunteering so that you can keep your skills sharp and
up-to-date.
Don’t become a hermit. Make sure that you include social
activities in your calendar that are not job search related. This is important in keeping you
socially connected and keeping the job search blues away.
