Making a good first impression with your physical presence is just as
important as making a good impression with your resume. Below are a few no-no’s when it comes
to job interview attire:
1.
Do not wear jeans to your interview, even if you
think they look like slacks. A
matter of fact, stay clear of any type of material that can be mistaken for
jeans or sportswear. As American
everyday attire has become more casual it seems that job candidates have
carried that casual style into their interviews where it absolutely does not
belong.
2.
Avoid flip-flops, sneakers, or any type of open-toe
or sandal style shoe. When it
comes to footwear, play it safe and wear a traditional pump if you’re a woman
and closed-toe dress shoes for men in traditional muted colors such as black,
gray, brown, beige and blue.
3.
Don’t wear blouses or shirts which are too low, or
too ornate. Remember, you don’t
want the attention to focus on your clothing. Try to stick with traditional styles as much as possible.
4.
Don’t wear any perfumes or colognes to your
interview. Many people are
allergic or sensitive to scents and wearing a scent to an interview could be a
distraction or even annoy the interviewer.
5.
Don’t wear any clothing where you can see your underwear
underneath. If you have a top that
is kind of translucent, make sure you wear a full camisole or t-shirt
underneath.
