There’s no debating that the recruiting field is changing rapidly and
that many ways that business was done in the past are dying out. Below are a few core skills every
recruiter needs to insure that no matter what change comes their way, they
won’t be left behind with the relics of recruiting’s past:
1. The understanding
and effective use of “hard” technology.
Recruiters who want to make it into the future, must use tools that help
them do their job better. There
are many tools out there; but the trick to making them work for you is avoiding
the ones that waste time and money and focus on the few that add value to your
business.
2. The
understanding and effective use of “soft” technology. The distinction between hard and soft technology is
important because while they are two different things that when used properly
can work in concert to add tremendous value to your business. Soft technologies such as social
networks, blogs, websites and other online tools that help you communicate with
more of the right people while saving time, energy and money are a critical
part of recruiting now and in the future.
3. The ability to
identify and recruit job candidates who offer value that is difficult to find. Recruiters who want to make it into the
future must package and develop their business in a way that is attractive to
the highest quality candidates available.
4. The ability and
willingness to build long-term relationships with clients. The one thing that
has always been critical to the business of recruiting, and that will remain so
in the future is the ability to build and sustain relationships with employers.
