In the business world we hear a lot about “brand building” but brand
building isn’t just for companies.
Job candidates who want to survive and thrive during good times and bad
should always be working on their job candidate brand. Let’s take a look at a few tips:
1. The first step
to building your job candidate brand starts while you’re still employed. Become the go-to person for projects,
information and assistance. Take
the initiative to solve problems that you employer is facing and be sure to
tactfully showcase your accomplishments to your superiors. But don’t wait until
your annual review to bring attention to your accomplishments and solutions,
make sure you give your superiors periodic updates throughout the year.
2. Avoid
bad-mouthing a current or former employer. If you must talk about your employer
make sure that it is about the positive aspects of working for that
company. Find ways to support the
initiatives of upper-management and work as a valuable member the team.
3. Begin building
a name for yourself outside of the company by writing for a local newspaper,
starting a blog, speaking at legal industry functions or even volunteering your
attorney services to a local non-profit.
